desire to travel

Although I love the change of seasons in Germany, as  soon as the weather starts getting really ugly, I dream about travelling away. Far away. To a place where the sun always shines, where the nights are warm and full of exotic flavours and where people  live outdoor most of the time...

#11 Bellini

Recently strolling through the delikatessen of Karstadt, a Dresden department store, we found the perfect tool to prepare an "instant Bellini": a small bottle containing pureed white peaches for longdrinks.  The season of whites peaches is short, so it seemed to be worth a try.  (In case it wouldn't have met my high expectations - there are always dessert creations calling for an extra ingredient.)

To mix the original Bellini, invented more than half a century ago in Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy, you need

2 parts  dry sparkling wine (prosecco)
1 part fresh white peach purée

Pour the peach purée into a chilled champagne flute, add gently the sparkling wine and stir.

sweet, strong and very italian - granita de caffé

Granita de Caffé

1l espresso or very strongly brewed coffee
300g sugar

Mix the warm espresso with the sugar until the sugar is dissolved. When cooled down, place the mixture in the freezer. Once it begins to freeze around the edges, take a fork and stir the mixture, breaking up the frozen parts from the edges into smaller chunks and raking them toward the centre.
Return the dish to the freezer and repeat the procedure from time to time until you have beautiful, fine crystals of homemade granita.

Have a sunny day!
